Mastering Your Performance for Leaders

Getting into your comfort zone means identifying what works well for you in terms of work life balance.

I didn’t have a chance to eat today all day!

The meeting lasted 5 hours with a sandwich for lunch at 2.30!

I can’t fit exercise in because my hours start at 8 and end at 7.30!

When I have meetings with coffee all day I end up feeling sick!

I’m sorry guys but this timetable and eating schedule is so damaging to your health.

There is much evidence to say that skipping meals, running on adrenalin and maintaining elevated cortisol levels is detrimental to your health.

I attended a talk with Dr Libby Weaver and I was so relieved to hear her subject as I hear this all the time in the workplace and in my practice.

Dr Weaver has written on the harmful effects of stress in our lifestyle. I urge you to read and educate yourself about this.

Solution: Make some simple adjustments.

  • Eat a healthy meal every four hour including protein. This maintains your blood sugar level.
  • Drink water to hydrate your brain and keep you alert.
  • Have a 20min walk around the block at lunchtime.

As a leader in your business recognise when you are getting addicted to the adrenalin rush.

Stop, breathe and notice.

  • Is this ultimately the best thing for me right now?
  • How can I support myself to stay in optimal condition?

Leaders, your staff will want to please you and run with your expectations of what they perceive is required in their role. It’s up to you to lead your team in a healthy well-balanced way. Take charge of your own health and the health of your staff and lead by example.

You wouldn’t expect a race horse to miss breakfast, drink 4 cups of coffee, run on empty all day and somehow maintain peak performance and win the race.

But, this is what I hear many of us are doing. It doesn’t take much. Start with a few small changes and see what a difference it will make.

One of my clients was in a very busy role as a manager, had a new baby, his relative was critically ill and he had targets that just had to be met. For him going for a run at lunchtime gave him that mental break so that he could continue throughout the afternoon. He came back refreshed each day ready to continue and he succeeded in his targets. He found he could handle life’s challenges in a healthier more balanced way.

Yes, it is a change in mindset but when you know what works for you and that you will be more effective then go for it. Take personal responsibility for you.

Honour yourself and take that one step to Get Into Your True Comfort Zone.
